Founded by a Miami native with a passion for sake, Big Water Sake is determined to bring high quality craft sake to the South Florida region.
The origin of the word "Miami" comes from Mayaimi, which means Big Water in the languages of Calusa, Mayaimi, and Tequesta Native American tribes originally from South Florida referring to Lake Okeechobee. We believe that the reference to the Big Water, or Mizūmi in Japanese, perfectly embodies Inari, the goddess of rice and sake in Japan, who uses foxes as her earthly messenger across rivers and lakes.
